Fall Trends: Coconut Oil

Fall is among us and I can’t be more excited for the crisp city air, cardigans, scarfs, and chai lattes! However, I am sure the incoming September issues (which I must add are more like weights then actual magazines- InStyle has 716 pages, while Vogue weighs 4 pounds) have given that away.
So what’s in store for this Fall in the world of beauty? Plenty. But it’s more the ingredients then the actually looks this season. The last few years olive oil and argan oil have dominated and rocked the beauty industry. Gradually, Coconut oil has been gaining more attention not only in beauty but health as well, making it fantastic to add into any part of your lifestyle.

Coconut oil is the most nutrient dense part of the coconut. The oil is over 90% saturated fat and has antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal properties. Using coconut oil on the skin leaves it moisturized because the skin absorbs it slowly. It also has antioxidant properties that help in the absorption of other minerals and building cells making them ideal for younger looking skin. Pretty cool, right?
It’s definitely overwhelming seeking coconut oil specific products (or any ingredient specific product.) So I have selected a few of my favorite true and tried LUSH products that are jam-packed with this beneficial oil.

I chose LUSH because I am passionate about using products that are not tested on animals, as well as the fact that they make their ingredients openly available for their customers.
LUSH is a cosmetic company based in the United Kingdom, but has 830 stores in over 50 countries. They are 100% vegetarian, 83%  vegan, 60% preservative free, 38% naked (packaging free).  All their products are cruelty-free and handmade. They use fresh organic fruits and vegetables, the finest essential oils and safe synthetics in making their products.
LUSH was the first cruelty-free brand I was introduced to over 6 years ago and I am still very much a Lushie. When I started my journey of cruelty-free they were the first place I went to. I bought everything from bath to skin so I thought it would only be fitting for them to be the first brand I introduce.

This whipped, creamy in-shower soap is soothing and conditioning due to the almond and coconut oil making it hydrating and great for dry or irritated skin types. Almonds have a high vitamin E content, which is a powerful antioxidants for the skin. The gorgeous fragrance of jasmine, ylang ylang and vanilla leave the skin smelling delicious and feeling silky. It’s whipped texture makes it light but still nourishing. Bonus: you can use it as shaving cream too!

This fragrance-free body lotion has pineapple juice, coconut oil, pumpkin seeds, and mandarin and rosemary infusion. Pineapple juice consumes dead skin cells and dirt, while the pumpkin oil is high in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. The combination of mandarin and rosemary is calming and refreshing. This unique mixture makes the lotion light, hydrating, and super brightening on the skin.

Modeled after the decadent treat, the macaroon, these luxurious bubble bars are perfect for a relaxing bath. The high content of coconut oil and Shea butter make it softening and enriching for the skin. If you don’t think it can get any better the “icing” is coconut oil, so stick one of these Bubbleroons in the bath and get ready for a majorly moisturizing, softening and lush soak.

This split-end treatment is in a lip balm tin making it convenient to throw in your purse and use throughout the day. To use, put some wax on your fingers and lightly coat your ends in the protective wax instead of splitting your hair further or snapping them off. The super beneficial formula is made out of olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, Shea butter, and eggs! Meaning your ends are being feed all these extremely nourishing oils while the egg helps add shine and protein resulting in softer, stronger ends. The base of the balm is candelilla wax, which is great to tame fly-aways.

Last, but not least, lets not forget about our lips. Not only is this tinted balm a beautiful crimson red shade but it has fresh apple infusion, cinnamon, a hint of white chocolate, and coconut oil. The cinnamon extract warms up your lips and coconut oil will guarantee well taken care of kisses. It also doubles as a cheek stain, just dab a bit on the apples of your cheeks and blend.
